Hortiindia 2013

Hortiindia 2013- the two day Workshop cum Exhibition was organized by Institute Of Horticulture Technology, Greater Noida on 16th -17th Feb.2013 with the theme “Innovative Production Systems in Horticulture” - A perfect blend of theoretical and practical horticulture at Technology Park, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing, Govt. of India ; Ministry of Chemical and Fertilizers, Govt. of India; Ministry of Statistical & Programme Implementation, Govt. of India; National Horticulture Board, Dept. of Horticulture, Chhattisgarh and AkhilBhartiyaGrameenVikas Sanstha, Greater Noida were main supporters of the Workshop cum Exhibition with ”Hands on Training” for the interested participants.

The Workshop cum Exhibition titled “Hortiindia” was organized to demonstrate the innovative technologies to the farmers to empower them with the latest techniques, face to face interaction with the experts from the horticulture industry and to provide “Hands on training” by the faculty and the foreign visiting faculty of the institute. A large number of farmers from Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and surrounding areas participated in the event.

The event was inaugurated by Mrs. Deepa Das Munshi, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Urban Development, Govt. of India. She emphasised the need for adoption of such techniques especially in urban&peri urban horticulture owing to the high demand of vegetables in cities and spoke about the various schemes available with the ministry for the encouragement of urban and peri urban horticulture. All the luminaries present on the dais delivered special remarks and appreciated the role and objectives of IHT in present scenario and congratulated for organizing a very informative event which would be very helpful in the development of horticulture industry of the country. Publication of IHT which comprised of Souvenir was released by the Chief Guest Mrs. Deepa Das Munshi before addressing the audience.

Before inauguration started the dignitarieshad a visitto the exhibition and workshop where practical training was being imparted to the farmers in groups. The different innovative technologies which were demonstrated in the trainings were production of quality and disease free planting material of vegetable crops in mist chamber, production of tomato in energy efficient polyhouse, production of quality cucumber in greenhouse, production of lilium in specially designed hybrid polyhouse, use of hydroponics in tomato cultivation, Canopy management in guava, mulching techniques, Innovative technique for Vermicomposting, medicinal and aromatic plants cultivation techniques and Growing plants in pots/containers.
